On the first day at Ophir I already knew how much fun I would have as this was one of the first gold towns. Not forgetting there was a murky river which you can swim in with a rope swing. Well you can’t get perfect as there was leaches in the river.
We packed for the night before we saw cows and kangaroo’s walking past. In this camp site there are only toilets no electricity or internet therefore no technology. We did some homework before we went to sleep in the scorching hot weather.

We spent five days at Ophir and most of the time I was on the rope swing like a monkey with my brothers. On the second day I woke up had breakfast and raced to the rope swing before mum disagreed. It was very tempting to just jump in, but we had to check safety first. We grabbed a long stick and checked the depth before diving in. On my first dive I was hesitate about the temperature and leaches, so I watched my brother go in first to make sure its okay for me. I watched him a few times before I went on the rope and dived in the murky water.

After doing it 100 plus times it started getting cold, so my brothers and I went to mum and dad who checked us for leaches. I felt relieved because I had none of those disgusting parasites but for my brother that was another story. He had a big slimy one which I spotted on his leg. Before I tried to get it off he screamed and I tried to forget about it.
The next day I was a man on a mission to find gold. Ophir was the first payable gold town in 1851.

Before I could look for it we went on a hike which had shafts, tunnels and old mines we met some people who gave us some advice and showed us a GOLD nugget.

After that we did some panning for gold all I found was a few yellow rocks and some filthy pebbles. Gold felt so valuable that I went back to the river for an extra five minutes before going back home and sleeping.
