Forbes, a country town

When we arrived at Forbes the weather was scorching hot and we had to set up. The site was opposite a river luckily as we got the cool breeze.

According to wiki camps there was a place where we could have free hot shower. When we got there everything turned out wrong; first showers were cold water only, second the room was full of spiders, and last it was only one room and very old. As I thought all was lost something good came out of it, there was a dog that thought it was a cat, because it kept rubbing against my legs.

The next day we drove to a place called Weethalle, where we saw an amazing art on a silo. We took time off, walked the dogs and explored. The silo is the only one in NSW, most of them are in Victoria. Before we left we said hello to another couple traveling.

Back in Forbes we explored the town and came across a few op shops and beautiful buildings. Mum met up with a lady called Kathy and my brothers and I went to a park and started running around while the adults had a conversation. I ended up being all itchy and having grass all over me, but I was happy as I had ice cream with banana cake afterwards.

The Dish

We were kind of bored of Forbes, so we traveled to Parkes where the “Dish” is located. The Dish is a radio telescope, 20 km north of Parkes. On 20th of July 1969, the dish was one of many radio antennas to receive live, televised images of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

When we got there, we spotted the “dish” because it was enormous. The front garden had:

Two small “dish” on opposite ends so you could whisper on one and hear it on the other dish.

Had an apple tree, cutting from the original tree in the UK that dropped the apple that fell on Isaac Newton's head and it had a Sun dial.

Enough about the outside, we went inside and inspected the rooms before we watched a small 3D movie about telescopes, mars and bigger than big (solar systems).

We went outside and saw the almighty dish, at that particular time it was also moving.

We bought a coin souvenir before we left and headed back to our caravan.

On our last day in Forbes, we visited Kathy and her husband Fred. They had two dogs, Scruffy and Coco and they lived in a large property. The dogs actually love vegetables which was a surprised, our dogs don’t like veggies.

In the morning as we left, we stopped at an orchard and bought a box of the tastiest, fresh fruit (white plum, nectarines and peaches) only handled once. yummy!
