An outback classic…….
Before we got to our destination of Mareeba we stopped for fuel and refreshments at Ety beach. We got some discounted fuel and did a quick tour of the place before leaving. We started walking on Ety beach with some rather delicious chips. As quickly as we arrived we left for Mareeba.

We arrived there a few hours later and met up with a very tall guy who wore glasses and looked like a Rohan. When we were at Lowood we met him, and he took us on his boat the Zin, he also invited us to stay at his property at Mareeba. We had a little chat before he left us to explore the wonders of Mareeba.

We greeted Yui (Rohan's wife) and Jake ( son ) as we arrived at their property. We parked our caravan next to the house and started setting up as we were going to stay her for around a month.

On the day we arrived at Mareeba Jake was participating in the wheelbarrow race. The wheelbarrow race is sponsored by Mc Donalds and it’s a fun raiser, the money you raise goes to a charity of your choice, in Jake’s case, money went towards Rosies which is a mobile soup service for the homeless. The race consists of 140km run pushing a wheelbarrow. We met him as he crossed the finish line and congratulated him for such a great achievement.

During our time in Mareeba we did a day trip where we visited some well know beaches like Port Douglas, Palm Cove and many more. Most of the time we got to take the dogs with us which was great as its better than staying in the car. My brothers and I played at the beach until my feet were covered with sand which meant it was enough playing and time to go and have lunch.

As we were travelling along the road we stopped at a place know for Mexican burgers and as always dad was drooling and making us go to have a look. It was worth the wait as 20 minutes later deluxe burgers as big as a basketball came out.

It felt like we were at an all you- can- eat restaurant as I was stuffed afterwards, the place was called Lobo Loco.

The next day as we woke up in the morning I had some juicy oranges from Rohan’s orange tree which just made my day. We had a tight schedule as we had planned to see the Barron falls.

The weather was not so great as it was cloudy with some light showers, still we managed to see all the water falls just making it at full pace. The falls were beautiful as they were pouring with fresh water.

Two weeks later, after our adventure at Cape York ( I will do a separate entry ) the last thing we wanted to do while in Mareeba was to see the Great Barrier Reef. Although it was very expensive it was well worth it as we took a boat that took half an hour to arrive at Green Island. I felt a bit sick in the boat, but I managed as we had some tea and ginger tablets.

When we got there, we had to collect our snorkeling gear as we had booked an extra tour to snorkel on the outer reef. There were many stores as it was a tourist hot spot and so was a bit crowed.

We got right into the action and jumped into a smaller boat that took us to the reef. I was excited and at the edge of the boat ready to pounce with my gear. Underwater there were all shapes and sizes of coral and fish. While exploring the reef mum and I spotted a huge turtle at 12 o'clock which actually came up towards us to breathe. It came up to the surface and it was so close that I was just about to touch it until mum pulled me back towards her. It was one of the greatest and most memorable experiences ever. The rest of the day we spent it by the beach in Green Island snorkeling.

At 4:30pm I took a boat back to Mareeba with my generous and kind family.
When it was time to leave Mareeba we thanked Rohan, Yui and Jake for their generosity and kindness as we were going to continue with our adventure. Before we left though, we had to take some juicy oranges as they were delicious and refreshing.
