A town full of surprises…...

After giving the car the ride of its life at Cape York we decided to set up home base. We have been free camping and living in the bush for the past 2 weeks and haven’t had a decent meal. On the way to the caravan park at Georgetown we quickly went for a swim in the free pool. This felt different as we only got to swim in dams or creeks having the risk of crocs.

We got to the caravan park relaxed but not for long as we realised we had a puncture in the front wheel. That was an extra $20 for the bucket list. We went to fix the wheel and met up with a guy named Eric. Eric built 2 Peace Monuments for the community which was very nice.

My favourite person at the monument was Eddie Kooiki Mabo, he was indigenous.

After that we went to a small museum where we saw valuable rocks and stones. My After a few days of staying in the caravan we went to Cobbold Gorge. This was one of the main events as it was one of the best gorges. After the long and exhausting drive, we arrived at Cobbold Gorge. The infinity pool was just waiting for us as we got changed and jumped in.

After a few fat lines (big fat chips) we got ready to go on our tour. We were instructed to go on the bus by Ross the tour guide. We went through a few small river crossings and hills before we arrived at our destination. The tour started by him talking about wild berries and which ones you can eat. On the other hand Gidgee Gidgee were the ones you couldn’t as they are poisonous.

My brothers and I rushed ahead to see our fate and found out that we were going to go on a boat cruise. It was a small boat, but it turned out okay as we had to navigate through the gorge. It felt like Stanley chasm as it felt like the rocks were closing in.

On the gorge we saw a unique spider web design and a newly discovered species. We kept our hands in the boat to prevent the boat knocking our hands which did happen. It was a peaceful moment as all we heard was the birds and my brothers trying to make sounds with a leaf. Slowly we got out of the boat and saw a baby saltwater crocodile we didn’t bother it because somewhere the mother was watching us.

On the way back, we got back in the air-conditioned bus had a little nap, said goodbye to Ross and took a long road back to Georgetown. The next morning, we had a very tight schedule to pack up and take a 3-hour drive to our next destination. As much as I love to sleep in my brothers were driving me nuts so within 10 minutes we were in the car still exhausted. We said goodbye to Georgetown and continued going West.
